Itinerant hike - 5 days

Want to roam the Haut-Jura on foot?


We offer 5 days +/- intense hiking through Grandvaux and its lakes, waterfalls and high-altitude forests.


For this stay with accommodation and catering, we offer you 4 nights as close as possible to Grandvalliers who will welcome you in the best possible conditions.


You will travel daily using the network of GR de l’Echappée Jurassienne as well as that of the trails registered in the PDIPR (Departmental Plan of Walking and Hiking Routes).


It is recommended to go with a hiking map of the territory that you can order here.


For each night, we recommend that you book your accommodation in advance. Do not hesitate to contact the Haut-Jura-Grandvaux tourist office for any further information.


1 Day:


Saint Laurent or Saint Pierre / Grande-Rivière Château

About 9 km


You are leaving from Saint Laurent: previous night possible

with a view to initially reaching the place called Les Poncets.


You will then arrive on a path leading into the forest then go down until you reach the hamlet of l'Abbaye en Grandvaux and its magnificent lake.


You can then stay at theHotel Lou Granva or to the Abbey Hotel or you can continue to climb up to Les Cernois to reach the stopover lodge The Cernois chalet where you will have a breathtaking view of the Jura Mountains.


2 Day:


Grande-Rivière Château / Nanchez

About 15 km


Depending on where you slept, you will have to go up or down in order to reach the Belvedere of the Mill which, culminating at an altitude of 1000m, will offer you a panoramic view of the entire lake and its surroundings. Don't hesitate, along the way, to stop near the President Tree to admire this gigantic conifer!


You will then continue to descend to reach the Pré Basset sound site where you can enjoy playing with its echo or simply listen to the birdsong.


It is then that you go back up to access another belvedere, that of the Virgin of Ecuvet, giving a view of the small village of Château des Prés and the Jura Mountains. Once satisfied with this landscape, you will descend towards the village center, while crossing charming little streams on your way and crossing a pretty forest.


As soon as you arrive in the village, set your sights on the last challenge of the day: the Duchet belvedere, which will offer you a nice view of the Prénovel-Les Piards valley.


On the way back down, you can also extend the walk by discovering the peat bog of the Nanchez reach, a developed trail which will introduce you to the fauna and flora living in a humid environment, before returning, for this second night, to your accommodation at Le Duchet holiday village or possibly, if you are in a group, the House of Trémontagne.


The Duchet holiday village will adapt to your traveling needs: packed lunch, washing machine, dryer, early lunch and even luggage transportation!


3 Day:


Nanchez / La Chaux-du-Dombief (Ilay)

About 14 km


To start the day, you will take the path of GRP Tour de la Haute Bienne, surrounded by greenery, towards the Maguenay belvedere which will give you a magnificent view of the Lake Bonlieu surrounded by its dense forest.


After following this lake, you will leave the GRP to take the yellow marked path (PR) to reach the Saut Girard waterfall, first in the series of 7 Hérisson waterfalls.


before joining the hotel restaurant l’Auberge du Hérisson (where you will be offered a packed lunch for the next day), you can refresh yourself at Lake Ilay and admire its turquoise-colored surroundings on a clear day and its cliffs in the background.


4 Day:


La Chaux-du-Dombief (Ilay) / Lac-des-Rouges-Truites

About 24 km


For the penultimate day of this hike, you can start by visiting l'Botanical Space (trail, garden, exhibition) in Frasnois, then climb the Pic de l'Aigle, in Chaux-du-dombief, one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the Jura, which will allow you to contemplate the Hérisson Valley, Grandvaux and Lake Ilay in all their splendor.


You will then head towards the Pont de La Chaux, partially following La Lemme, before returning through the valleys to the village of Les Planches-en-Montagne where a very well laid out path awaits you to discover the impressive Langouette Gorges.


The walks along the waterways don't stop there: go back to your accommodation via the old tram (train) route, now passable on foot or by bike, admiring the Saine gorges below .


At Lac-des-Rouges-Truites, a few tens of minutes from your arrival point, take the time to contemplate the lake and its wetland through the facilities installed along the tramway.


The Chalet du Bugnon will offer you all the services useful to traveling hikers. Also find a green setting at Favière campsite.


5 Day:


Lac-des-Rouges-Truites / Saint-Laurent-en-Grandvaux or Saint-Pierre

About 8 km


Enjoy the calm before heading back to the ridge separating Lac-des-Rouges-Truites and Fort-du-Plasne.

Once again, you will enjoy walks along the waterways, sometimes to admire the ruins of the mill, sometimes to discover the peat bogs along the Lemme, whose meanders have been restored over the last decade.


All you have to do is head towards the town of Saint Laurent and its various shops such as the cheese factory in order to complete this escapade and thus return to your accommodation to enjoy a well-deserved rest.
