The Great Crossing of the Jura on horseback - GTJ equestrian

  • © Jura Tourism

The Great Crossing of the Jura on Horseback is a linear route for horseback riding (or almost!) along the Jura Mountains. From its northern end at Crosey-le-Petit, in Doubs, between Besançon and Montbéliard, the hiking route reaches Arbignieu, in Ain, crossing the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park. Nearly 500 kilometers in total, or around twenty stages (in stopover lodges, equestrian farms, campsites, etc.) for riders wishing to explore the entire route, which can of course be discovered by sections, at the discretion of hikers. Drawing on the Jura du Grand Huit and Ain à Cheval networks, this GTJ on horseback will have numerous common routes, escapes and ramifications. It took into account all the parameters specific to leisure riding: reception adapted to horses, length of the stages, diversity of the territories crossed… Thus the central part of the route will be accessible all year round, a “ infidelity” made to the massif allowing riders to descend towards the plateaus and explore the Jura vineyards!
