The balcony of the Bienne - 87N

Start Point: Meadow lime, Nanchez Directions to follow:
  • (D) A MEADOW LIME, the start is located in the center of the hamlet. Leave between the old PTT building and the fountain then a path on the left which may be wet on the edge of the peat bog until the place called The Douillons.
  1. To the right through the pasture, then the steep path and the carriageway, join Panties then the Bois des Prélions. Continue along a pleasant path leading to the village of CHATEAU DES PRES.
  2. Cross the village, joining the main road of the D 437 towards Saint-Claude, then go down to the right through the old road of the Bois de la Pontoise and the place called the Fay Wood. Near thePontoise shelter, continue straight on and soon directly above the D 437 for around 1500 m. Cross the D 437 and then go down to the village of VILLARD ON BIENNE.
  3. Turn left onto the D 126 and reach the exit of the town towards Morez. Then go up to the left by a small road located well above the D 126 and leading to the village called THE WET ONES.
  4. Cross the village until you reach the Town Hall. Continue until you reach the D 26, which you leave after about 750 m to take a path on the right leading to the entrance to the village of Tancua, at the place called Bienne Road.
  5. Go up to the right and join the D 26 which you take on the left for a few meters before going up to the right by a forest road. Then follow a route common to the GR 559 to the place called The Honey Valley. Then take a path on the left into the woods The Cernois.
  6. Go left along the Bois d'Aval forest road and carefully follow the markings until The horns. Continue to the right for a long descent until you reach the village ofABBEY IN GRANDVAUX. > A break is essential at the edge of the Abbey lake, a large area has been set up for picnics near the church, the last vestige of the old Grandvaux abbey.
  7. Head south on the D 437 then turn right to take a small road passing under the Hôtel de l'Abbaye and near the lake water pumping station. Continue on a small road along the lake shore until La Motte. Stay on the edge of the lake and reach the hamlet called THE BEZ.
  8. In the centre of the hamlet, go down to the left and reach the forest at the places called The Joux Behind and The Clemence Hut. Leave the GR 559 there and go left along a path leading to the BELVEDERE ON THE FORT. After a few meters on foot, a magnificent viewpoint covering, on the one hand, the Prénovel valley and the Bief de Nanchez peat bog nature reserve and, on the other hand, in the distance to the East, the peaks of the Jura Mountains, from Dôle to Crêt de la Neige.
  9. Head east and soon cross the D 28. Pass near the buildings of a sawmill and continue right untilAt the Petit Pont. Take a left and reach the arrival point at MEADOW LIME. (A)
