A cultural hotspot labeled Musée de France, in the heart of Saint-Claude next to the cathedral.
Located in place of the city's former Benedictine abbey, this museum is the result of a donation from two artists: Guy Bardone, a native of the country, and René Genis. Their collection presents several generations of artists around big names in modern art like Bonnard, Vuillard, Vallotton, Dufy and the donor painters Guy Bardone and René Genis.
The visitor will discover, within a Contemporary architecture, large open and very bright spaces, offering one of the most beautiful panoramas in the city of the surrounding mountains.
The basement, for its part, houses a Archeological site priceless: the most important, and only, remains of the abbey of Saint-Claude known to date. Founded in the 5th century, it is one of the oldest abbeys in France.
