In Fort du Plasne, in the hamlet of Coin d'Aval, the association 'Les Amis du Grandvaux' offers you a visit to an old authentic cheese factory dating from 1825, the only witness to the 40 existing chalets on Grandvaux in the 19th century.
“Gruyère-style” cheese was made in these places between 1825 and 1906, the year a modern fruit farm was built in the village. From that year on, the building was only used for milk collection and for this reason it remained, fortunately, in its original state.
Guided tours explain what the old-fashioned manufacturing of the ancestor of the county was while presenting period instruments. They are supplemented by the projection of a faithful reconstruction, filmed on site. An annex room allows you to present old equipment used for making butter.
The Coin-d'Aval chalet is part of the Routes du Comté and is part of the Jura-Musée network.
