The peat bogs of the Nanchez reach are classified as a Regional Nature Reserve.
What is a regional nature reserve?
Certain natural spaces are remarkable because of the diversity and/or rarity of the animal and plant species they shelter. However, the sustainability of these peatlands, forests, dry grasslands and other wetlands – which teem with life(s) – often rests on a fragile balance.
The Regions have the possibility of classifying these remarkable areas as Regional Nature Reserves (RNR) in order to pursue three objectives:
1. protect natural environments, as well as the fauna, flora and geological heritage that they shelter thanks to regulations adapted to local issues,
2. manage the sites on the basis of 5 or 10 year management plans with the objectives of preserving and restoring biodiversity,
3. raise awareness among the public and offer them elements of understanding of this nature of complex functioning.
This discovery trail developed of 3,5km (1h30) you will discover the evolution of nature in wetlands. Discover, by reading the markers which mark out the 380m wooden decking, some of its secrets, including the "Drosera Rotundifolia", a small carnivorous plant.
