Eagle Peak and 4 lakes lookout

Duration of the route (in hours): 3 Positive elevation: 329 m Difficulty : Medium
Recommended parking: north of the village, leave the D678, direction Pic de l'Aigle Start Point: Pic de l'Aigle car park in Chaux-du-Dombief Directions to follow:

Since PIC P1 PARKING, pass in front of the eyewear factory to take a small path leading to the Pic P2 and P3 car parks "Parking at the top of the peak".

1. Start with the rocky path uphill (yellow marking) north to Foot of the peak through beautiful dry lawns. A steep climb to climb (red white marking) over 200 m leads to EAGLE PEAK .

2. The path continues northeast, winding along the wooded ridge. It comes close to a forest road twice and leads to the Belvedere of the Three Lakes, Ilay, Grand Maclu and Petit Maclu.

3. A stony path still on the edge of the ridge opens out into the middle of the fir trees at VIEWPOINT OF THE FOUR LAKES.

4. The path goes up to the right at Belvédère car park, below the Bois de Ban forest road.
The path on the left, extended by a path, runs along, without ever approaching, the ridge marked by groups of cliffs. By a rapid descent in bends, slippery in wet weather, the path joins the edge of the D 75 at the Maclu Coast.

5. By taking the cycle lane on the left at the edge of the road (yellow marking) , join the PETIT MACLU LAKE (car park). The path then runs along the Petit Maclu and Grand Maclu lakes towards Ilay.
Since The Path of the Lakes, the road on the left leads to Rousselets and its chapel, as if embedded between two trees.

6. Follow the road on the left (red white marking)  to take a path that crosses the D39 twice. The well-marked path (old tram line) gradually climbs at Chemin du Château then at the intersection between the forest road and the starting path (yellow markings).
Tips:

Be careful, in winter, the climb to the Pic de l'Aigle can be slippery because it is frozen: know when to give up! Steep and slippery passage at times on the descent to access the lakes.

This route crosses pastures with livestock, and takes forest paths. Also for the respect of the owners and operators who authorize you to pass, for the peace of livestock and wildlife, you are invited to stay on the marked trails.

Use the passages provided to cross the fences and make sure to close the barriers. Please keep your dog on a leash if you have one.

Wildflowers are beautiful, they can be rare and protected and often wilt quickly. Don't pick them! They will delight future hikers.

In the event of forestry work (felling, skidding, etc.), for your safety, know how to give up and turn around.
