The cairn trail
From the car park, go up the road for about a hundred meters where you will discover on the right side the first of some 150 cairns which mark the route, offering children a fun activity of recognizing the route in a “treasure game” style. The path reaches a first clearing with a small rest area under a pretty patch of beech trees. It then rises towards a first belvedere decorated with a bench encouraging contemplation (view of Mont Blanc, part of the Alps, the chain of Monts Jura, Risoux and Risol). A second belvedere offers the same panoramas with the added bonus of Lake Ilay, Le Pic de l'Aigle and the first plateau. After a somewhat steep rocky passage, the path runs along the cliffs of Chaux du Dombief (do not leave the route and do not approach these cliffs). It then winds its way back to the pastures, passes over a pretty wooden footbridge before bringing the walker back to the starting point.
